More and more people are starting to call North Carolina the best place to retire, particularly New Bern. Florida has always been a mainstream retirement state, but with rising property taxes and many areas being over crowded, New Bern, North Carolina is beginning to take the lead. Many retirees who migrate South from the Northern part of the United States are looking to move away from the intense cold weather that they’ve known all their life. New Bern, North Carolina is the balance between the two. With a very short, mild winter (around 50F), you can still get a taste of home without all the hassle and inconvenience.
Besides the climate, New Bern offers retirees an array of activities. Because it is located on the Neuse River that connects to the Atlantic Ocean, boating opens up many activities that most towns can’t offer their residents. Atlantic Beach, known for it’s white, sandy beaches, is just a mere 35 miles from New Bern as well. This is the perfect location for the person who wants to live near the ocean, but doesn’t want the high cost or risk associated with it. Real estate in New Bern on either the Neuse or it’s connecting river, the Trent, is very affordable. Many moderate size homes can be bought with waterfront starting around $250,000. Being a buyer’s market, now is an excellent time to invest in waterfront property.
Golfing is another exceptional benefit that New Bern, NC has to offer. With over six golf courses and one currently in the works, this city is a golfer’s paradise. Take, for example, the community of Fairfield Harbour. It is known for its exceptional water views and its two, 18 hole golf courses. Just down the street you will find the neighborhood of Taberna, a tastefully designed retirement community with southern charm. Taberna boasts a stunning, 18 hole golf course built around wide man made lakes and was designed by Senior Jack Nicklaus Designer, Jim Lipe. These are just a few of the extraordinary golfing communities that New Bern has to offer.
New Bern, North Carolina is the dream destination for retirees. The ability to be closer to family up North, without the extreme weather and high property cost is a great incentive of its own. Add on the recreational activities that New Bern provides and that puts the decision over the top as one of the best places to retiree. Since you can get a great deal on real estate, this city is definitely one to be considered during your next move.

Today’s market benefits two groups of buyers: first-time buyers, and buyers moving up. It is an excellent market to buy, especially if you don’t have a current home to sell. For this reason, we’re seeing a lot of first-time home buyers opting to buy instead of rent. Since these first-time buyers are not having to make contingencies to sell a home before buying another, they are able to use that negotiating power elsewhere (price, for example).
Even if you have a home to sell, it’s a very good time to move up. It may take a little while to sell your current home, and you won’t get for it what you would have gotten even a year ago. But, remember that you’ll also be paying considerably less for the home you’ll buy if you’re moving up. For example, let’s say your current home is worth $250,000 on today’s market. If you move up and find a larger or nicer home for, say $350,000, you’ll be saving a lot of money in the long run by buying now. Depending on area, you’re looking at a roughly 5-8% drop in prices for the past year. That percentage difference for savings is much higher for the more expensive house - in other words, that 5-8% loss in selling your house will be more than made up in buying a more expensive house now rather than later.
Many buyers are using this opportunity to move up, since prices in the next couple of months seem to be about as low as they’re going to get. We’ve seen a lot of past clients coming back to us to move up, as well as buyers who have been sitting the fence waiting for prices to get as low as possible. This is a great time to buy with Charleston’s strong buyers’ market.
In short, today’s market is ideal for first-time home buyers and buyers looking to move up. On the other hand, it’s not beneficial for buyers looking to downsize or liquidate assets. So, if you’re considering downsizing, it would be better for you to wait until the market picks back up. Less than a year from now prices should be well on their way back up, and you should get considerably more money for your home than if you sold now.

Boston’s Seaport District, also known as the South Boston Waterfront, has experienced a renaissance the last few years. Just a few years ago, the Seaport District was a mainly commercial area, filled with fish companies, piers, docks, abandoned factory buildings, and sea gulls. There were 2 main reason to go to the Seaport District a few years ago. One was the Spirit of Boston cruise line, which is still in operation today. The other was Jimmy’s Harborside, a famous restaurant in Boston that just unfortunately shut down for good. Now, there are tons of reasons to visit the Seaport District! The Bank of America Pavilion is one of Boston’s largest concert venues, and features some of the biggest names in the music industry past and present. The Museum of Contemporary Art is one of Boston’s most popular museums, and is located in the Seaport District.
There is also brand new convention center, which is one of the largest and modern on the East Coast. There have been multiple luxury real estate developments built, and in progress in the Seaport District. Many of the factory buildings along the Fort Point Channel have been converted into ultra modern luxury loft developments. Channel Center, FP3 Lofts, Dockside Place, and 21 Wormwood Street are just a few of these buildings. Many of the loft buildings include 24hr concierge, fitness center, and indoor garage parking. The lofts also offer some of Boston’s largest spaces, and at very good prices compared with the Financial District only a short walk away. The Park Lane Seaport apartments have been a huge success, and is now one of the most coveted luxury apartment buildings in the downtown Boston area. One bedrooms in the Park Lane Seaport start around $2000 for a 1 bedroom, and $2800 for a 2 bedroom.
The building features a 24hr concierge, roofdeck, and amazing views of the Boston Harbor. Fan Pier is the newest of luxury developments on the way. Fan Pier is a $3 billion dollar real estate development and will include a 5-star hotel, residential units, commercial space, restaurants, and shops. Fan Pier will also include a marina that will accommodate yachts up to 200 ft. There has also been many luxury hotels built in the Seaport District the last few years, such as The Seaport Hotel, and Marriot Renaissance. The real estate boom continues to go strong, as there are more plans to develop the neighborhood.

Manchester United have recently been crowned Premier League champions in England. It is the tenth time that Sir Alex Ferguson has led United to this prestigious title, quite an achievement. T the team is now heading to Russia hoping to add the Champions league trophy by beating an in-form Chelsea. What about next season, who will end up as champions of the Premier League next year? Will it be Man Utd again, Chelsea, Arsenal or even Liverpool?
Liverpool have some amazing players. Steven Gerrard would get into any team in Europe and could have sealed a move to Chelsea a couple of years ago. He is a red through and through but at times must become frustrated with the rotation system that Benitez seems to insist on using. Rafa is a decent manager however this rotation system sure does annoy the fans.
Arsenal are a superb team to watch, they play the game in the right way and have some silky players. Arsene Wenger is a great manager however a trip to Specsavers could well be of benefit. Football fans in the UK will understand what I mean! Arsenal just ran out of steam this season and I am sure Arsene had wished he had signed more players in January.
Chelsea seem to have become a real team again under the guidance of Avram Grant but are very boring to watch. Despite having a number of English players I must say that they are a real turn off.
I personally believe that Manchester United will win the Premier League yet again. Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez will be unstoppable.
I am also hoping that my team, Birmingham City, can win promotion back to the Premier League.
