Cancer and Your pH

In 1931, Otto Warburg, a German scientist won the Nobel Prize medicine for his discovery that the primary cause of all cancer was the lack of oxygen getting into the cells of the body,- a condition known as anaerobism. He discovered that anytime a cell was deprived of at least 35% of it’s oxygen requirement, a normal cell could convert into a cancerous cell within 48 hours. He was able to prove this by inducing cancer in 40 different species of animals within 3 days. He said that acids in the body fluids (acidosis) expels oxygen from the body, thereby inducing cancer.

Cancer above all other diseases has many secondary causes. Almost anything can cause cancer, but in every case of the cancer development, two factors are always present with cancer no matter what else may be present. Those two factors are acid pH and the lack of oxygen.

pH: What does it mean? pH is the abbreviation for potential hydrogen. The pH of any solution is the measure of it’s hydrogen-ion concentration. The higher the pH reading, the more alkaline and oxygen rich the fluid is. The lower the pH reading is, the more acidic and oxygen deprivehe fluid is. The pH scale is from 0 to 14, with 7.0 being the neutral. Anything above 7.0 is alkaline, anything below 7.0 is considered acidic.

If you have a health problem, including cancer, most likely you are aidic. Research shows that unless the body’s pH level is slightly alkaline, the body cannot heal itself. So, it means that means that no matter what type of treatment or modality you use to take care of your health problem, it won’t be effective unless the pH level is up. If your body’s pH is not balanced, you cannot effectively assimilate vitamins, minerals and food supplements. Your body pH affects everything.

If your body pH is around 7.4, it’s in the normal range, but if it’s between 6.5 and 5.5, you are already developing a degenerative disease.

The Truth About Drinking Water Safety

Today we are faced with many drinking water safety issues.

It’s incredible to think that that in our modern world, it has been recently estimated that food borne diseases (including those from drinking water), causes approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths in the United States each year.

Typically, these incidents are reported to news organizations and the public is made aware. If e-coli are present, the best solution is to filter and then boil.

If, boiling is not an option, the Center for Disease Control recommends the use of household chlorine bleach.

But, for emergency situations, it is really best to keep a case of bottled on hand.

Public treatment facilities around the world use chlorine to insure the public’s drinking water safety.

That is how they keep waterborne illnesses, such as cholera and typhoid in check.

However, chlorination releases chemical by-products known as THMs or trihalomethanes. Exposure to THMs causes an increased risk of cancer.

Some of the latest research has come from countries with public health care, because they want to know how much these new cancer cases are causing the government.

Perhaps they are wondering if it would be less expensive to find a safer alternative. But, nothing is forthcoming.

To protect yourself from THM exposure, you need filters on your drinking water faucets and your showerheads, because exposure does not only come from ingestion.

The gases are absorbed through the skin and inhaled.

Pregnant women have an additional risk of miscarriage and an increased risk of having a child with birth defects.

Lead is a big issue in drinking water safety, particularly right now.

Facilities are required to test and testing is supposed to be conducted at homes “with the greatest risk”.

But, there have been reports of “lost” test results and failure to perform follow up tests.

Exposure to the toxic metal causes damage to nervous system connectors, as well as blood and brain disorders.

Children are particularly vulnerable.

Exposure has been linked to schizophrenia and delayed puberty in girls.

Studies indicate that low-level exposure over a number of years causes behavioral problems in teenagers and adolescents.

Drinking water faucets can be fitted with a filtration device that includes an ion exchange step to remove nearly all traces of lead.

Look for certified performance data to verify that the system removes lead.

Drugs, hormones, VOCs and 2000 other synthetic chemicals, many of which cause cancer are all issues.

Your drinking water safety cannot be guaranteed by your local government or your treatment facility.

But if you shop for the right system, you can easily solve the problem in your home.

Controversial News About Anti Aging Vitamin D

Four Emerging Breakthroughs In Solving Brain Tumors

Despite significant advances in cancer research and treatment, one form of cancer - brain tumors - remain particularly feared, and for good reason. Because of their location, brain tumors can severely impact an individual’s personality, memories and basic motor skills, robbing the patient of their very being. The impact on family and friends is felt greatly, as their loved one may be “lost” to them even earlier than feared. While there are more than 120 types of brain tumors, for the most common and serious adult tumors, Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the chances of living 5 years is less than 3%. Most patients will live no more than a year or two despite aggressive therapy.

However, few maladies manage to both simultaneously confound researchers in their mystery, yet hold such promise for the cure and management as prominently as brain tumors. There is strong belief that some significant breakthroughs in brain tumor treatment may only be 4-6 years away. Complementing traditional chemotherapeutic and surgical approaches, four emerging breakthroughs are discussed here which are rapidly transforming the treatment of brain tumors and related conditions.

Gene Therapy

Gene therapy approaches involve the insertion of genes into growing brain tumors, rendering them more sensitive to some chemotherapeutic agents that are relatively non-toxic to the rest of the body. Some promising experiments have demonstrated that with insertion of genes into animal brain tumor cells and administration of chemotherapy, complete destruction of the tumor may be possible without spread of the tumor. Other approaches in gene therapy include substitution of abnormal genes for normal genes, the repair of abnormal genes via selective reverse mutation, and gene regulation (i.e., altering the instructions within a gene to “turn on or off”).

Vaccines

One area showing substantial promise in brain tumor treatment is based on an immunotherapeutic approach; that is, using a patient’s immune system as an instrument for cancer therapy. This approach is premised on a body’s immune response toward cells bearing tumor markers or antigens. One major focus area has been “active immunotherapy”, described as the administration of the tumor antigenic material to help “vaccinate” a patient against their own tumor. Other vaccine approaches, including Dendritic cell-based vaccines, Cytokine immunogene therapy, Bacterial and viral tumor vaccines, and GBM-specific molecular pathway vaccines are also being considered. The vaccine approach holds challenges that need to be evaluated against other treatment options that may require crucial patient choices, but they are continuing to emerge as an area of significant promise.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Radiotherapy

There is growing usage of stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy among neurosurgeons. The tools, used for the non-invasive treatment of tumors and other brain, head, spine and neck conditions, use sophisticated mechanical systems and image-guided technology to treat tumors, using high, targeted doses of radiation (in a single session) to attack the tumor and minimizing contact with healthy tissue. The image guidance systems direct the radiation to the tumor; some systems shape the radiation beam to map to the exact shape of the tumor, and software can help direct the ideal access points to the tumor.

Dual Agent Drug Therapies

Some of the field’s leading researchers have concluded that traditional treatment for many brain tumors has started with a faulty premise; namely, that interventions for brain tumors were simply a palliative effort designed to decrease patient discomfort and increase stabilization. The conclusion is that while these therapies have shown some success on their own, when multiple therapeutic agents are combined, (an approach more commonly used with cancers not as fatal) an increasing number of brain tumor patients are seeing increases in survival. Also, newer drugs are showing the ability to block the growth of tumors by attempting to interfere with their proteins that control tumor growth. And other, specialized treatment regimens are being formulated for patients whose tumors are shown to grow at an accelerated rate compared with typical tumors.

These are but four of the emerging approaches where we may continue to see major breakthroughs in treatment or management of brain tumors. The hope in all these courses is that ultimately, brain tumors may in some cases be curable or at least achieve status as a manageable disease, as with many other serious and chronic conditions such as diabetes.

Prostate cancer is a disease that only affects men, as the prostate gland is only found in men. It’s located below the bladder, just in front of the rectum, and is about the size of a walnut. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder, and it passes through the prostate gland. The gland is also crucial in a man’s reproductive ability, because it contains cells the supply seminal fluid. This is the fluid that nourishes and protects the sperm. If the prostate gland fails to provide seminal fluids, then the fertility of male sperm cells is compromised.

As a boy grows into a man, the prostate grows as well. The amount of growth is dependent on the male hormones that feed the prostate. If the level of male hormones is low, then the prostate won’t be able to grow to its full size. It’s also possible, mostly in older men, for the section of the prostate that surrounds the urethra to continue to grow, and this causes a condition known as BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia. Because of the pressure on the urethra from the enlarged prostate, BPH causes problems with urination. It can be quite an uncomfortable condition, but it doesn’t post any serious health threat to the sufferer.

Prostate cancer, on the other hand, can be fatal if left untreated or discovered too late. The prostate gland contains a variety of cell types, however the gland cells are where almost all prostate cancers originate. This is a slow growing cancer, and is known as prostate adenocarcinoma. It’s not unusual for older men to have had this type of cancer for years, and not even know. It’s not unknown for an older man to die and have an autopsy done, only to discover he had prostate cancer. It’s possible for prostate cancer to be present for an extended period, and yet the sufferer may not display any of the common symptoms such as problems with urinating.

A great deal of research has been done into the causes of prostate cancer, but nobody really knows exactly how or why prostate cancer starts. Some doctors believe that tiny, often undetectable changes in the shape and size of the prostate glands are the beginning of prostate cancer. Where this type of change is detected in the prostate gland, it’s referred to as prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, or PIN. There are two levels of PIN - low grade (close to normal) or high grade. Any high-grade level of PIN is regarded as abnormal. If a biopsy shows the presence of high grade PIN, it’s necessary to conduct further tests, as this could mean that there are cancer cells present in your prostate. Early detection is just as critical in prostate cancer as it is with most types of cancer, so it’s important that further tests are conducted immediately.

Most of the time prostate cancer grows very slowly, but that’s not always the case. Prostate cancer has been known to spread very quickly. There is still no way of knowing which types of cancer cells are likely to grow quickly and which slowly, even with all our modern technology. Deciding what makes some cancer cells grow faster than others is a question that still remains unanswered. It’s also the case that most cancer cases are unique because the individual with the cancer is unique, and so care and management can vary enormously between patients.

Stress, Cancer and Hypnosis - How Does Hypnosis Help?

Stress hormones may play a new role in speeding up cancer growth. New research suggests that hormones produced during periods of stress may actually increase the growth rate of a particularly nasty kind of cancer.

A recent study at the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research at Ohio State University, showed that an increase in norepinephrine, which is a stress hormone, can stimulate tumor cells to produce two compounds. These compounds then go ahead and break down the tissue around the tumor cells and allow the cells to more easily move into the bloodstream. Then, they travel to another site in the body to form additional tumors. This is the process which is called metastasis.

It was shown that the same hormone can also stimulate the tumor cells to release another compound that can aid in the growth of new blood vessels that feed cancer cells, hastening the growth and spread of the disease. This work was reported in the journal Cancer Research.

Research scientists at Ohio State University, then also focused on the role of these compounds. Two of them, both matrix metalloproteinases - MMP-2 and MMP-9 - play a role in breaking down the way that cells attach to in order to maintain their shape. The third compound, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), is important in the growth of new blood vessels into tumor cells.

An interesting earlier work by the University of Texas had shown that the same stress hormones can stimulate ovarian tumor cells to produce these three compounds. The key to that discovery was that the two stress hormones - epinephrine and norepinephrine - would bind to places on the surface of ovarian cancer cells, called adrenergic receptors, and stimulate the release of MMP-2, MMP-9 and VEGF which might then foster cancer growth.

It was found by the Ohio study group that MMP-2 and MMP-9 contribute to the aggressiveness of tumors. It wasn’t exactly clear as to how they are operating but they may work to facilitate blood vessel growth in new tumors so that they can grow.

It seems to me that using hypnosis as a way to deal with and release stress is a “no-brainer”. Hypnosis is known to work with the autonomic nervous system and shut off sympathetic responses that can leave our body out of balance in the hypothalamus, pituitary adrenal axis response. We can use hypnosis as a way to also help with emotional healing which is a stress reliever within itself. Perhaps, with emotional healing we can shut off the instructions that our body was given to allow the cancer cells to go out of control. Our bodies know how to repair. They are programmed for health.
